GeoLand — Privacy Policy
Last updated: 19 July 2026
This Privacy Policy explains what information GeoLand (“GeoLand”, “we”, “us”) collects when
you play the game or use its features, how we use it, who we share it with, and the choices you have. GeoLand is a
free browser game where you play, build and share levels. By using GeoLand you agree to this policy.
1. Information we collect
Account information
- Username — chosen by you and shown publicly next to levels you publish and to other players in multiplayer.
- Password — never stored in readable form. We store only a salted, one-way hash (PBKDF2), so we cannot see your password.
- Email address (optional) — only if you choose to link one. It is used solely to verify that the address is yours (which unlocks publishing levels and voice chat) and to prevent one email being used for many accounts. We do not send marketing email.
Content you create
Levels you publish — including the level name, its layout, and any music link you attach — are stored and made
publicly visible to other players alongside your username. Play counts and clear counts are recorded for each published level. Don’t put personal or private information into level names or content, since it becomes public.
Gameplay & progress
- Which official levels you have completed (so progress can unlock content and sync across your devices when you’re signed in).
- Your chosen icon colour and design, and your local list of unpublished (“My Levels”) levels — these are kept in your browser.
Multiplayer & voice chat
- Multiplayer presence: while you play a shared level, your username, position, current gamemode and icon colour are broadcast to other players on that same level so they can see your “ghost”. This data is temporary and automatically expires shortly after you stop playing; it is not kept as a record.
- Voice chat (optional, requires a verified email and your microphone permission): audio is sent directly between players (peer-to-peer via WebRTC) and is not routed through or recorded on our servers. Our server only relays the small connection-setup messages needed to establish the call, and a third-party STUN server (currently Google’s public STUN) helps peers find each other.
Information collected automatically
- IP address: used for security and rate-limiting (to prevent spam and abuse). We do not use it to build advertising profiles of you.
- Basic technical data your browser sends automatically, such as browser type, for the site to function.
2. How we use your information
- To run your account and let you log in.
- To publish, store and display the levels you share, and to show play/clear statistics.
- To provide multiplayer and voice chat.
- To verify email ownership and enforce one account per email.
- To protect the game against spam, abuse and security threats (rate-limiting, moderation).
- To save your preferences and progress.
3. Cookies, local storage & similar technologies
GeoLand itself uses your browser’s local storage (not tracking cookies) to remember your login session,
your settings, and your progress. Some third-party features embedded in the game — such as the YouTube or SoundCloud
music player — and any advertising (see below) may set their own cookies, which are governed by those companies’ own
privacy policies. You can clear this data at any time in your browser settings, though logging out and progress-sync may
then require signing in again.
4. Third-party services we use
| Service | Purpose |
| Vercel | Hosting the game and its servers |
| Upstash (Redis) | Storing accounts, levels and progress |
| Resend | Sending email-verification messages |
| YouTube & SoundCloud (embedded players) | Playing the music a level creator links; these set their own cookies and have their own privacy policies |
| Google STUN (public server) | Helping voice-chat peers connect (no audio is stored) |
| Advertising partners (see section 5) | Displaying ads, if enabled |
These providers process data on our behalf or as independent controllers under their own policies. Data may be
stored and processed in the United States and other countries.
5. Advertising
GeoLand may display ads to keep the game free. If advertising is enabled, third-party vendors — potentially including
Google AdSense — may use cookies or similar technologies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this or
other websites.
- Google’s use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads based on your visits to GeoLand and other sites.
- You can opt out of personalised advertising by Google at Google Ads Settings.
- You can opt out of personalised advertising from many other vendors at aboutads.info/choices or youronlinechoices.eu (EU).
6. How we share information
We do not sell your personal information. Information is shared only:
- Publicly, by your choice — your username and any levels you publish are visible to everyone; your live position/icon is visible to others in the same multiplayer level.
- With the service providers listed above, as needed to run the game.
- When required by law, or to protect the rights, safety and security of GeoLand and its users.
7. Data retention
Account data and published levels are kept while your account exists. Multiplayer presence and voice-signaling data
are ephemeral and expire automatically within seconds to a minute. Email-verification links expire after 24 hours.
You can ask us to delete your account and its data (see “Your rights”).
8. Your rights & choices
- You can view and change your username’s public content by re-publishing or removing your levels.
- You can clear locally-stored data via your browser at any time.
- Depending on where you live (e.g. the EU/UK under GDPR, or California under CCPA), you may have rights to access, correct, or delete your personal data, or to object to certain processing. To exercise these — including requesting account and data deletion — contact us at the address below.
9. Children’s privacy
GeoLand is a general-audience game and is not directed at children under 13 (or the minimum age in your country). We do
not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us personal
information, contact us and we will delete it.
10. Security
We take reasonable measures to protect your data — for example, passwords are stored only as salted hashes, and
connections use HTTPS. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, however, and we cannot guarantee absolute
security.
11. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we’ll change the “Last updated” date at the top. Continued
use of GeoLand after changes means you accept the updated policy.
